First responders typically are called to emergency scenes as situations are still developing. Paramedics, or EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians), play an integral role in delivering emergency and out-of-hospital medical care to patients in crisis, often having to perform advanced skills in ambulances, helicopters or remote facilities.
EMT students at Fortis College in Centerville, Ohio, are fortunate to be learning their craft in a nationally accredited program. In addition to the Centerville campus in Dayton Ohio, Fortis offers EMT and paramedic programs at several other campus locations nationally. As part of their education and training, they learn advanced, invasive airway and breathing management, intravenous medication administration, and emergency cardiac care, among other skills. Upon completing the course, they are prepared to test for national or state certification.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2012-13 Edition, employment of EMTs and paramedics is expected to grow by 33% through 2020, which is much faster than average for all jobs. Fortis Centerville EMT graduates not only are being trained for an occupation that is exciting but it is a career field that has strong future as our population ages and people continue to access more healthcare services.
