DENTAL ASSISTING

Fortis's dental assisting program will provide you with hands-on strategies and techniques that will enable you to work directly with dentists in both treatment and examination rooms.

Although state regulations vary, some typical duties of dental assistants may include:

  • Preparing patients for treatments, exams, and teeth cleanings
  • Assisting dentists during examinations and procedures
  • Sterilizing, operating, and maintaining dental instruments & equipment
  • Administering periodontal dressings
  • Applying topical anesthetics and sealants
  • Taking tooth impressions
  • Scheduling patient appointments
  • Processing x-rays and doing lab tasks under the direction of a dentist
  • Keeping records of dental treatments
  • Working with patients on billing and payment

As a graduate of the Fortis Dental Assistant program, you will be confident in the basic knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level position as a dental assistant and prepared to continue your education to learn more advanced skills. 

Advanced skills could include providing more hands-on care to your patients and performing more advanced duties at your job. As a Fortis Dental Assisting program graduate and with some additional experience, you could choose to pursue additional education in specific specialty areas, such as preventive functions, orthodontia or restorative functions.
